''Ulmus laevis'' var. ''celtidea'' Rogow. was a putative variety of European White Elm first described by Rogowicz,〔Rogowicz, A. S. (1869). ''Fl. Kief.'' 229, 1869.〕 who found the tree in 1856 along the river Dnjepr 〔Heybroek, H. M., Goudzwaard, L, Kaljee, H. (2009). ''Iep of olm, karakterboom van de Lage Landen'' (:Elm, a tree with character of the Low Countries). KNNV, Uitgeverij. ISBN 9789050112819〕 near Chernihiv in what is now northern Ukraine. The type specimen is held at the National Herbarium of Ukraine.〔(Specimen at the Herbarium of P. Rogowich, National Herbarium of Ukraine ) as ''Ulmus effusa'' Will. f. ''celtidea'' Rogow.〕 The variety was first named as ''Ulmus pedunculata'' var. ''celtidea''.〔 Similar trees were later found near Briansk in Oryol Oblast, but featured larger leaves.〔Chitrovo, ''Bull. Soc. Nat. Orel'' i. 50, 1907〕 ==Description== The leaves were oblong-lanceolate, but only about in length, long-acuminate at the apex, and coarsely, sharpely serrate, cuneate and sub-equal at the base.
